Water Mess – MTVH tenants entitled to refund on water rates

As you may have seen in last week’s South London Press, many Metropolitan tenants are entitled to a refund on their water rates.

Between 2000 and 2016 Metropolitan negotiated a special rate with Thames Water when tenants paid water rates, but the saving was not passed onto the tenants.

There were similar schemes throughout the country, and there have been a number of court cases in which tenants have been reimbursed,

As a result of campaigning by the St Martins Residents Association and the South London Press, Metropolitan have agreed to reimburse tenants.

MTVH, therefore, should soon be sending out letters to all their current tenants to update them on the current situation. But remember you heard it here second

This scheme at the moment applies only to Metropolitan tenants: it does not apply to leaseholders who have paid separately for their water supply. Those affected are the tenants at:

· Kynaston, Gwynne and Tillman Houses

· Roupell Road, Abbots Park and Gaywood Close

· Sheppard, McCormick, Williams, Derrick, Taylor and Saunders Houses

This excludes many parts of St Martins that were once run by Metropolitan before the estate reverted to its three original landlords in 2017. Although Metropolitan were the estate’s only administrators between 2000 and 2016, it is considering offering this reimbursement only to those who are current MTVH tenants. However, the St. Martins Residents Association will continue to campaign for reimbursements for those who are presently tenants of Optivo and Notting Hill (NHG) but who were tenants of Metropolitan between 2000 and 2016
