SHG are replacing lifts across our estate. We are demanding they use a quality contractor
SHG are replacing lifts in the following blocks
- Baldwin House
- Bell House
- Burnell House
- Hart House
- Maskall Close (37 – 56 only)
- Morrison House
- Portland House
- Roycroft Close (37 – 46 only)
Leaseholders have to pay for this work directly. Tenants pay for this work as part of their rent.
(Note that, in addition to these figures leaseholders also have to pay a 5% consultancy fee. SHG also charges a £25,000 contingency per lift)
Several residents contacted SHG in February 2024 asking what SHG would do to ensure the lift was reliable. SHG replied to say
Q: What was the criteria used in the selection process by which you adjudged Guideline Lifts to be the most appropriate? What weighting was given to each consideration?
A: The first step is the technical compliance to the specification, and this had to be met at 100% with no deviation. We then considered the quality submission on seven questions based on 40% cost and 60% quality.
Q: I am most concerned that the new lift is reliable. Please reassure me reliability was a major consideration in choosing the preferred supplier.
A: The technical components specified are to a high quality and are well supported in the UK., the control systems used will be manufactured in the UK. None of the other parts are exclusive to a particular manufacturer so we can source these from a range of other suppliers without difficulty.
Q: Is there an easily accessible stock of spare parts if this lift breaks down?
A: With the key components specified manufactured in the UK, this means spares are readily available and other parts are stocked by a number of other suppliers.
