Southern Housing Residents Deserve Transparent Service Charges

Southern Housing have recently sent leaseholders their service charge statements. The numbers seem wrong

In particular

  • Residents in Hart House pay more than twice as much as residents in Baldwin House for block cleaning. Even though the two blocks are next to each other and very similar
  • Residents in Bell House pay more than twice as much as residents in Hart House for grounds maintenance.
  • Residents in Portland House pay more than twice as much as residents in Hart House for lighting.
  • Residents in Valens House were charged £238 per household for a “Door Entry system”

Don’t assume your service charge statement is right. The Social Housing Action Campaign has reported “high levels of inaccuracy to go unchecked”. And we challenged MTVH on service charge transparency and they improved. We can get Southern to improve too.
