Some leaseholders on our estate are looking to extend their lease. We can’t offer legal advice, but here is some neighbourly advice from an MTVH resident
There are two routes to choose when you extend your lease, one is formal and one is informal. I went for the informal route. All is explained in this document
I’ve taken the first step of the informal route, which is emailing the Home ownership team (Homeownership@metropolitan.org.uk) with a request to extend the lease (you need to attach the request form as explained in the document, plus a copy of your lease)
A Surveyor has contacted me to arrange a visit in a couple of weeks (this is costing me £420 including VAT). After the visit MTVH will suggest a price for me to pay to extend the lease. After that I’ll have to instruct a solicitor for next steps.
I have been told the extension will cost around £8000 in the end (including all expenses such as paying for surveyor and solicitor). However I believe this cost varies according to the property you live in.
The process to extend my lease started about 6 months ago. I hope to get it completed soon
