Southern Housing leaseholders. We need your help to ensure transparent service charges
We are hoping you’ll be able to assist us with a campaign we’re working on regarding the increase in service charge costs Southern Housing have levied this year against its leaseholders. For example, the Building’s Insurance for one property in Hart House increased from £17 to £40 per month. This is an astronomical increase.
When the Leasehold Advisory Service visited the estate, they told us ‘If an insurance broker says your insurance costs are higher than the market rate, challenge your landlord on reasonableness grounds’. And as the costs are 5x what Challice Way residents pay and twice what MTVH residents pay I think we can challenge them on reasonableness grounds”
We have a committee meeting in early June where we are keen to move forward with our local councillors to get answers from Southern Housing on how they justify such increases. All this whilst we are in the midst of a cost-of-living crisis!
